The is the second edition of Julia Perry's study of the Ridge family, and includes corrections, new research findings, and expansions on the previous edition.

This book traces the ancestors of Richard Ridge of Bourke, whose ancestors arrived as convicts on the First (1788) and Third Fleets (1791). Richard Ridge was born in the Hawkesbury in 1843, as the son of Sophia Huxley and James Bligh Ridge, grandson of Ann Forbes, Thomas Huxley, Richard Ridge and Margaret Forrester, and great grandson of Robert Forrester and Isabella Ramsay.

It is set in the context of the circumstances that led to the convict settlement of New South Wales and Norfolk Island, from Captain Cook and Joseph Banks to Governors Phillip, Bligh, and Macquarie.

The greater portion of this story is set in the Hawkesbury region, but the journey ends in the far western region of New South Wales.
